Got tubes?
Ok, I have a question for you guys and gals.
I just set my tank up and 'trate, 'trite, and ammonia are at 0. With that being said, I think the reason is because my rock was bought from a guy across the street and has been cooking in a bin for almost two months. IE, no die-off.
Here's my question:
I'm worried that my tank hasn't cycled... in fact, I pretty much know it hasn't. There's not been anything to cycle it!
So, do I add animals very slowly to get it to cycle? Wait a week and if everything is still good add something? I'm thinking it shouldn't harm them... may have to do water changes to keep nitrate down until some bacteria forms in my sand, but with around 70 to 80lbs of LR, I think it might be ok.
Or, would you just go ahead and throw a cocktail shrimp in and let some more bacteria grow?
I've got two perculas that have been in QT for about 3 weeks with a bunch of rock and some hermit crabs (5 I think) that I know would sustain the two little guys and the crabs, because it already is! lol So I could put some of that rock in this tank and etc. etc. to make sure they'd be ok and just keep my eyes on the nitrates.
What do you guys think?
I'm not in a terrible hurry to get things in there... I do want to do this right, but I wouldn't mind putting my fish and hermits in there relatively soon.
Thanks!
Brandon
