Cycling Rock

I plan on setting up a new tank in a few months, and wanted to go ahead and begin cycling my rock. I have a large cooler that it would all fit in, can I just put the rock in there with a circulating pump and a raw shrimp and let it go? I live in Florida so would it be too hot to let sit outside? I realize that warm water holds less oxygen, but maybe place an aerator in the tank as well to ensure the growth of beneficial bacteria? Thanks for your help!

yes,
just throw a powerehead or 2 in there and let it go....

if it were me I would do it inside as to not have a ton of evap.. and I would skip the shrimp.

but really your new tank will have to cycle anyway so why not just cycle the whole set up at once?

I also agree on skipping the shrimp.

I personally had a bad experience with the shrimp. I put a cocktail shrimp in the beginning of my nitrogen cycle and that made the ammonia off the charts. If I were to ever build another system, I would use dry rock, and only about 5 lbs of live rock to seed it and just wait it out.
