i used one when I bought a used tank that was up and running but had no fish. I still have it and it is doing fine. Kind of wish I hadn't gotten a dammsel and I've tried to trap it a few times to give away.

Cruelty to fish. You can use bit of food and there are products available to start aquariums off. Damsels may be fairly hardy and one of the cheaper fish but that's no reason to poison them!
Also if it survives and you don't want it in your display tank you've got to find a home for it. Suspect your lfs would take it back so he can sell it again making more money!
Agree. Don't do it. Better to get into the practice of qting your fish. I mean you might as well put a 100 fish in your tank to cycle it. Just because it's a cheap fish doesn't mean you should put it in a harmful environment. Much better ways of doing this
