Cyclopeeze question.

When adding cyclopeeze (or any zooplankton for that matter) to my tank for filter-feeders/corals should I turn off my skimmer at all?

I use AquaC skimmers, and they shut down for me on their own. :)
I've noticed lots of people do shut them down for an hr or two.

yes i believe most ppl do - so as to not skim out all the food right away, and let the animals filter what they can

I read that Eric B once stated that we should shut down our skimmers during most all feedings, but that he himself usually just feeds more and lets the skimmer run (since he doesn't feel like going out to the fish room to turn it off). I more or less follow the same philosophy.. we just feed more and leave the skimmer running.. a bit lazy and wasteful, but I am just being honest :)

I don't turn mine off either. I figure that if it goes down the overflow and into the sump, it will rot there anyway. It is then fair game for the skimmer. I only turn mine off for water changes and cleaning.

i don't turn my skimmer off either. i do shut down all the pumps except for my return pump. that way the cyclopeeze hangs in the water column for a bit.

I don't think that the skimmer is going to make much of a difference with something as (relatively) large as cyclopeeze. Although I haven't actually looked for them, I don't recall finding any cyclopeeze in my skimmer, and I run a Deltec, so it's a good skimmer. The only thing I shut my skimmer down for is DT's oyster eggs.

i also only shut down the skimmer for oyster eggs. i don't feed them that often though, so an hour or two a week is all my skimmer stays off. i need to rig some sort of oyster egg timer to turn it back on though. sometimes i forget.

Check this out...The other day I cleaned out my skim cup and there was mysis shrimp in it that I usually feed my fish. Aqua C Remora skimmer...how the heck did mysis fit through it??? I mean the pump --> the air jet --> to the cup? but they were in there.

You know what I found in mine.......A lot of pods....live ones...I just installed a laundry sink in the basement. You know those square type....anyway I dumped the skimmate in the tub and not directly down the drain....then I saw things swimming around  Did not expect that.

When I feed with cyclopeeze and the skimmer is running it will take out 5 gal of clear water trying to clean thing up. I don't think I'am using to much, I just have a senitive skimmer.
If I wait 2 hr. the refug. seem to clean the water before it reaches the skimmer.
