Cylcing Tank without Lighting?

Hey everyone,

just about to start my first 100g tank, have ordered in some Sfiligoi XR4 Lights but aren't expecting them for a few weeks, just wondering in the mean time if I should go ahead with cycling the tank? Will it cycle without lighting?

thanks

no light is needed to cycle the tank. Some even say to leave the lights off (or at least short hours like 3-4 tops) during the cycle...well i've cycled both ways...lights on regular schedule and no lights at all. Made no difference for me tho. Both tanks still went thru the same algae blooms and everthing...nothing different other than i enjoyed the one with lights more because i could actually see it.

I always run my lights on short cycle. 4-6 hours a day. I agree, that the algae will come either way, but I love to watch the process as well.

J,

Go for it. You might discover a problem with the tank and the earlier you work out the bugs on your new system the better.
