Cyno !

I don't know of anything that eats cyano. There is no fast cure for it. If it is possible, look into a phosban reactor and GFO. This will help reduce the phosphates in the tank, which is the number 1 food for this stuff.

I had water tested for phosphated and have a test for it but as i'm told you have to be a chemest to realy accurately test for it. Whats a GFO I realy hate these abreviations!! Awfully small tank to be puting all this into it.

Have you tested for phosphates?

Don't worry, you will get through it. Other than being an eyesore it won't hurt much unless it takes over your coral which would be an extreme case.

GFO may help.

A reactor with carbon and GFO is cheap and worth a try. bulkreefsupply has a nice one for 60 bucks.

But if the $18.99 is a bit too much for the red slime remover, $60 may be over the top.

If you decide you want to use the red slime remover, I have some you can have if you PM me your address. I used it on my 125 gallon and it worked great. All my LPS, SPS, and fishes are doing great and slime is gone. I have enough left to treat about 100 gallons.

GFO = Granulated Ferric Oxide. You put it in a mesh bag and it helps remove phosphates.

I have some I could send you.

Well siphoned what i could again today . I was told to vacume sand bed.I realy don't think you can suck up fine substrate Those substrate vacumes are for coarse substrate like crushed coral .

Just got in off road Snow in Michigan Ontario Ohio New york . Well enough of that !! Cyno comming back . Going to use the Stuff for red algie can't think of name only thing I can do. Can play this game for ever chasing a reason for it.

hey Aaron, that's really nice of you to offer giving him that red slime remover and the gfo media. I'm glad there are people like you in this hobby.

Do you use a fuge???

I had two wars with this crap. Don't use chems it will only make it return later.

Basically cyano grows all day and dies every night. When it dies at night it releases all those nutrients back into the water, then in the morning will start again. So What I did was I made sure my fuge was on all night and even extended its shift to 20 hours a day. This way at night when the cyano is dieing and giving off its nutrients, the chaeto is sucking it all up. Also to keep it away I brought in a engineer. A engineer goby of course who would keep sifting throught the sand. Cyano is a bacteria so by having the fuge keep the nutrients away and the goby sifting making sure the bacteria doesn't survive dormant in the sandbed was a good method. Literally worked for me in about a week. Although I fought the problem for months before that

Well still battling tested 0 phos 0 nitrate 0 amonia cal 400 alk 7 dkh going to rais this to 8 . scrubbed what i could sucked up what i could redirected canister return . This stuff comes off live rock like big green scab lays on substrate like this can push it around with wooden stick I use to flip snails. Going back to LFS with plastic tub with this stuff in it. See what they think .
