Got a good encrusted frag today and put it in the tank. It's polyps have not come out at all, been over 2 hours.

Is this typical?

Had a meteor shower a while back and it looked like a blob of poopoo for at least a month with nothing, no polyp extension and no color. Thought it was a goner and out of nowhere it grew like crazy with excellent polyp extension and color. They are fairly hardy so should be ok over time given that everything (water parameters) is all good in the tank.

It is, however if it's a meteor shower, that corail hates strong light. Low/indirect light works best for mine

Its sitting midway up the tank right in the middle under 4 39w T5's

i can try moving it elsewhere

Drop it down some. Mine didn't color up until I moved it about an inch and a half above the sand bed.

I don't see a lot of coraline algae, or algae in general on the rocks. How old is this tank? What are your parameters, nitrates, phosphates, calcium and alkalinity.

the tank is still pretty new, so no corraline yet

there is (or should i say..was) brown diatom and green algae, but it is gone in a flash due to my kole tang. theres a decent amount of green film algae growing on some other rocks. you can also see some of it in the pic

ammonia, nitrite and nitrate is all zero

i dont have any calcium, alk tests etc yet....but i use seachem reef fusion 1&2 to buffer....seems to work pretty well

i also use chemi pure elite, so im fairly sure my phosphates are at or near zero

I'd stop using those products until you get some test kits. Don't put stuff in your tank you can't test for.

You don't really want your phosphates to be absolute 0 either.

I'd get tests for at least the 4 I mentioned before adding any more chemicals or animals.

What about your salinity and water change schedule?

Got calcium and phosphate tests....petco didn't have any KH tests

Calcium 460
Phosphate 0

I have moved it around a little and see sight polyp extension, but not the neon green kind, just small reddish ones
