Adam calling me that the Octopus climbed out of the tank and on the floor dead and dry. I walk up, run downstairs and there was what I thought I made enough prevention for to escape on the floor. I think it might be because I did not feed him for two days and he could fit through a tiny hole. I picked him up and he was stiff. Put him back again in the tank. After 15 minutes he is changin color but not moving. Hope he is still alive and will see.

when that alcohol ages let me know....lol...can you get fermaldahide? im sure the local funeral homes have spare....

Man I love octopus salad...Puerto Rico speciality. My step dad got me hooked on it. That and morciea(sp)..Blood pudding.

Thats too bad about the octopus. I am suprised it dried out on the floor. I have seen them survive for quite some time out of water..There were pics on the net about 6 years ago of a octopus that would commonly leave the tank to gain access to a tank full of comets. I will have to look for the pictures...Whether they were photoshoped or not it was pretty cool.

I will start another octopus tank again if I can get over the relatively short lifespan. They are very interesting and the kids love them.

You mean formaldehyde

I should be getting two blue rings this week :) handle carefully like grenade.
The Blue Ring Octopus, Hapalochlaena lunulata, the most venomous octopus

After all this, I can say, that I'm glad this is a simple hobby for me, and not have to worry about anything like those. :)

My LFS had a Blue Ring a year or two ago. They had no idea that it was so toxic. They never sold it. It ended up dying as all octopus do in captivity within a few years.

Scott, somebody got luck they did not get hit by it. I should have two blue rings on Friday.

Mo, I saw one at the international petsupply shop in NJ. I wanted to get itbut didn't. He had it in a container inside the tank. Was affaird one of the kids would try to mess with it and open the container and get hit. I would still like to have one one day.

I saw it and this one came from the same supplier and that container with holes is a good idea. I did that with the blue ring I got today but it looks dead so not sure if is going to make it.
