So as of late Ive run into a little bit of an algae problem. Some brown slime gooey looking stuff on the rocks, and brown dusting on the front glass and sand. My levels are

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
SG- 1.025
KH/ALK- 10.6
Calcium- 420
Mag- 1200
Temp- 78f
Phosphates- 0

All tests from Salifert test kits, my light schedule is T5 actinics on at 7am off at 7pm. 1 250 MH on at 9:30 off at 5:30, 2- 250 MH on at 11:30 off at 7. Make up water is RODI and all test are 0. I feed 2 times a day small amounts all the food is eaten within 5 minutes. What the heck could be causing this?

Smitty,

Looks great! One thought, you might need to go slowly adding bioload to your young tank to allow the system's bacteria to adjust and stabilize along the way. One old saw I have always subscribed to is that nothing good happens fast in a reef aquarium. The diatom bloom is just one of several perfectly normal steps in an immature tank. You may go through another phase which includes green hair algae, also completely normal. Just go slowly and stay with it and all of these little things sort themselves out. Not preaching, just want you to succeed!

BigTex thank you for you're concern its much appreciated. The tank went through the cycle than a very small diatom bloom which lasted about a week and than cleared up completely. This algae looks more like a brown slime coating the rocks, not like the powdery covering of the initial diatom bloom. The fish were added slowly even though it sounds like a lot, my system was running in the basement sumps for 2 months before putting my DT online to try and reduce the cycle time of the DT which it did. So I'm not sure what's causing this problem???

Hi, going through the archives with word searches and this thread came up. I have a tile floor as well. Is there a product out there that the stand can be placed on, some kind of rubber mat I suppose. I'm just afraid that the weight of my future 90 or 120 gallon will crack the ceramic tile.
So a year and a half after the start of the build, how is everything going?
Thanks.

Well its been awhile since Ive been on the site all is well a few bumps and bruises along the way some heartache and headaches but its been a fun ride. Ill try and post some updated pics this weekend. Brian the tile floor is holding up great no cracks or anything like that. J Chu those slots came on my verflows not really sure what theyre actually for but I didnt want to cover them over.
