dalmation perc

I have had my perc for 2 months now and its doing great. I was really looking at it today and noticed all of its orange areas are getting black spots. None in the white, Its starting to look part dalmation!!!! Its very happy, swims fine, eats great. Anyone know whats up with that?
 
All I have right now is a camra phone......cant get anything from that, but at the rate its moving I think I will have a blackperk with white srtipes.

Chances are your clown is loving up on one of your corals and it's stinging him causing the spots. Don't see any problem in that if thats whats happening.
 
That's not entirely true...it could be, yes, but if it is hypermelanization, your percula is probably going to fill in with black somewhat. Not entirely, but the black around his white markings is going to start widening quite a bit.

It could be the stings, or it could be this coloring trend...you'll just have to wait to find out.
 
"Onyx" is just a coined term to refer to hypermelanized perculas. Hypermelanization is considered an abnormal coloration and is usually found genetically linked to hypermelanized parents, but not always. In nature, as with any animal, they will color to what is right for them. Could also be caused(or spurred) into action through nematocysts or other stinging cells. Usually nothing to worry about. Would need pictures, though to make sure it is nothing worse...there is also a disease(parasite) called black ich, but not too common.
