Dang the wrasses

Can't keep wrasses for the life of me. Had a yellow finned that was doing well and "disappeared". Had a filament wrasse eating and seemed fine that "disappeared". Tried a solar wrasse lately and was eating well and "disappeared". I'm done. LOL Rant to say the least.

Anyone in my boat please relate as well !!!!!!

Had same issue in my 120g, wrasses would disappear over night. Started doing night time recon and found Gorilla crab! He killed 4 wrasses including Flame pair! Couldn't get him out but chased him into one way out hole and entombed him with putty. Didn't lose a wrasse for 5+ years after.

Yeah, if the tank is covered and this is happening, suspecting a nocturnal predator is reasonable.

Not the case. This has happened with a previous tank as well. Maybe the fish are not as healthy as I thought. Forgot one wrasse I had that did well, a green wrasse.

Do you treat any fish for fluke, it weakens the fish over time. I treat all my fish with Prazi pro and have been happy with my survival rate over the last 3 years.

They died in the rock and eaten by cuc. Just apparently healthy and eating and then no show. No crabs, and no filter socks, no cats, tank covered. Just no luck with them.lol

Did you start with dry rock? Hitchhiking crabs can be pretty sneaky. I found a huge one in my last tank after three years up and running.

I agree with the above post by rssjsb, my tank was at least going for 3 years before the gorilla crab got big enough to takedown fish. You need to do some nightly recon to make sure. Maybe even bottle trap and see what you get.

Appreciate the input, but I know there are no pests like that in my tank. Have several small fish as well. Just saying that I never had luck with wrasses in general. Will try again in the future and see how it goes.

Even with a top cover (net) I've had wrasse disappeared, Problem is that the opening in the net are not small enough to keep them from jumping out. even with a larger wrasse they can still go through that small opening. I've lost plenty of wrasse because of this.
