dangers with switching salts...?

Just wondering if there are any dangers with switching salts, i'm going from IO to Reef Crystals and would just like to know if there is anything i need to do to prep the tank for the switch....

I recently switched from IO to RC and didn't see a noticeable difference either way, but it's only been a month or so.

Personally, I wouldnt even bother switching, unless you got a good deal on it. I changed to RC quite some time ago and have noticed zero difference in anything. The claim is that the Ca and Mg levels are higher than IO, Ive yet to notice it. Granted through most online vendors the cost difference is minimal, so its up to you. A salt you may want to look at is Oceanic, I am going to try that the next go around.

You will have no problems with the switch.

Outsider here: I've used Oceanic for 2 years, been pleased with my levels and have no problem.

Yeah a while back, but there are also ssues with RC, I dont know that it ever ends:D

I know Sone(slovan) has been using Oceanic for about a year with good results, so I am going to give it a try.

Some intersteing reading there. I have noticed calcium precipitation from my latest buckets of IO, they are about a year old now, but that should not be an issue. I thought it was something I was doing different, but it matches Randy's description of high Alk mix perfectly.

Yeah, I've been noticing that also. My belief is that as long as your tank is doing fine, its not to big of a deal. I am just hoping the Oceanic will give my Mg a bit of a boost.

I have noticed I run through quite a bit of E.S.V. Magnesium while using IO. It is such an empty salt, it almost makes me wish I was still using my old dirty Corallife salt. That stuff was crazy high in Mg and always produced great coraline growth and purple coloration.
