Name is Daniel live in El Paso Texas. Joined 2 years ago family member took me to a fish store and immediately realized this hobby was for me, ive been researching and reading threads left and right on RC i measured an area in the living room and decided an 8 foot tank would be perfect for the space available.

Is this going to be a reef or are you doing a FOWLR first then to a reef?

this will be a mixed reef possibly leaning towards sps heavy.

here are some pics of the stand, used 2x6s for main support and 2x4 on the inside of the support legs for added strength. stand will be skinned with oak. sd card was damaged not many pics of the stand build.

Stand looks professionally built.

I dont know how reef friendly your livestock list is though with the angels and butterflyfish.

Thanks! stand came out great thanks to my uncles vast knowledge about carpentry.
Im taking a risk on those fish, all fish will be juvenile and hopefully as they grow i can get them to feed on only prepared foods.
Tank was built by a local shop 2 hours out of town,great warranty, clean work.

What kind of overflow are you doing? where the stand sits, the tank looks like it will be 4 side viewable.

You could also consider running cupramine rather than hypo for a QT. If cupramine is good enough for Copps, its good enough for me.

I've put every fish in my sig along with at least 5 other angels(gave them away) thru .5ppm cupramine without issue.

theirs two corner overflows at each end of the tank 6 inches away from the side panels reason being is the way the stand is built 2x6 supports are in the way for the 2" drain as well as the 1 1/2" return. i would like for the tank to be 4 side veiwable but the way the overflows are placed i don't think it will work out.

For the qt i was planning on having a step by step qt setup first having it at hypo for a couple of weeks then raising salinity back to 1.025, next would be treating with i believe its called prazipro and finally cupramine if signs of ich.

Don't forget to put down an extra run of PVC before you pour. It's cheap now and you just know you'll be glad you have it some day in case the main cracks or you come up with some other use for it.

Unfortunately the concrete has been poured, just now have time to post all the pics.

Looks like its a little to late for that.... But that would have been a very smart move IMO.... Other than that i am definitely tagging alone for this major build

Will you have the fish room plumbed to your DT or is it standalone?

insulation will have a layer of 4 mill plastic on top, on all the walls and ceiling followed by drywall.Drywall will be painted with water resistant primer, might add FRP board later down the road

Heads up on the Insulation I wouldn't put a 4 mil Plastic if its has a facing on the batt. You could slash the kraft facing on the bat and then put up a 4 mil plastic your going to run into moisture issues between the kraft facing and the plastic. 4 mil is used in unfaced batts
