curious if you have long term plans for you scape? Specifically the monti cap. Are you just going to let them grow into each other? Frag them? Move them and keep them equidistant apart and just upgrade as needed? Get rid of corals as needed? etc.
part of the idea behind making them so "movable" is to make it so they can grow out naturally, in whatever directions they should choose, the flow around them has alot to do with the way they grow too imo and is one reason why i like so much flow... they will not be allowed to grow into each other either, as they will always be properly spaced apart... this will be my long term display approach, but i hope to get a bigger tank in the somewhat near future... i hope to have a 115 gallon, 5 foot by 2 foot deep, and 18" high is what i really want... but at this point, i would love to even jus have a 65 gallon breeder without the overflow at 48" x 18" x 17" tall, jus drilled on the back side for 2 drain standpipes and a top centered return on the back as well... the footprint is the same as my 75g i have now, i know, but jus to have the room lost from the overflow and a few inches shallower jus to increase the par, would make me happy at this point...
as of now, i have narrowed my collection down from the original pics in this thread... i am now done to 25 columns spread out in the display leaving alot more space, with 2 frag racks located on the back wall for other, smaller frags of different corals... if i keep the frags on the racks nicely spaced out, i can fit another 9 corals on each of the 2 racks... giving me a total of 43 corals i can keep for the short term in my current tank...i am thinking i can get away with using this tank for another 6 to 9 months before i will need to upgrade... i hope to NOT have to get rid of any colonies or have to drastically cut them back at all, ever... this will make for an issue for the monti type species eventually, especially the caps... my thought is to have a designated 40 or 50 breeder for monti's only, and jus letting them go nuts in there, and having as many different caps as i can find... but thats jus a thought... again, i hope to not have to cut them at all, but that largely has to do with the colonies rate of growth, and my ability to afford a new display when the time comes, which is gonna be sooner than later... so hopefully i will be able to upgrade as i go, as needed...
