Dark purple with green polyps - ID

Matt Dean

I don't like wet hands!
Bought this frag and was told it needed a LOT of light. Well, it bleached, so I moved it to the sand and it's coming back.

I'd like an ID and suggestions on how to care for it. SPS does really well in my tank, so the tank is "slick", just need light and flow input.

Thanks

ID is "very beautiful" no, I don't really know, but I love it. Start low, give it good flow, watch polyps for extension slowly move it up to your desired location. Time will tell you how it's going to do. Nice piece.

Thanks. I'm not sure about that. It's not as much of a branching acro. more of an encrusting with high points. But the type of polyp and skin looks right. So, I'll research that acro some more. I'm trying to get a hold of the guy at the LFS I bought it from.

They said they had it under 400W MH. I have T5's and it bleached, however, it may have been pushed into a torch coral and got stung. It has completely healed already, so it's healthy and resilient. I'm going to follow the above advice and slowly work it up to the top - which is where I hope to place it.

Thanks Lamball, I have put it between a "Reverse" Strawberry Shortcake and a normal Strawberry Shortcake, with nice green Zoas above it. It should really POP!

If you haven't seen a REVERSE Strawberry Shortcake before, I've attached a pic. (It's not quite as pink as in the pic, but close)

I still haven't had a chance to ask the guy who sold it to me what it is for sure. It could be the A. nana, not sure about the bonsai. I'll have to look at that.

Cheers

Hehe. Thanks. I started this tank a year ago. My first "saltwater" tank - a 46 gal bow front - was six months before that. :) All you need is a ridiculous amount of money and some good advice. Actually, I wished I could afford more expensive corals, but I have hit my wall as far as money goes, considering I more than doubled my original budget!

Here's a BERY crappy video of the tank as of last month. I was just trying out a camera, but didn't like it. I have since removed the LTA, and I'm looking for a nice replacement.

It's a peninsula tank, so there's a video for each side. Cheers!

Love the bright yellow zooas!

what equipment do you use and do you dose?

The colors are close on the secale and the bonsai, but the shape and growth of the coral is not the same. :( Thanks for the input. I just haven't been able to get a hold of the guy that sold it to me!:hmm4:
