Dart threadwheel skimmer build

Hey Mike- Do you think 2 darts fed by an Alita 40 each would be too much for an 18" x 72" body? Just throwing around Ideas. for a clone of this:

Ken,
I think it would fly with a bubble diffuser to help with turbulence.
Especially with the reduce turbulence of the mesh material! That should kick some serious butt!

Yes 1 Dart and 1 Alita 80 bleeding off air from what Scott tells me. He is talking 2 darts and 2 alita 40's. 2 darts and 2 alitas is what bill wann is using on his original 27 inch diameter skimmer.
I still think it may work with the extreme height though.

2 AL-40s should outperform a single AL-80. The AL-100 and Al-120 are available also with the AL-150 and AL-200 units on request. Hrmm an AL-200 skimmer!

and a zillion dollars!

Is 140 SCFH a reasonable esimate for output on the 40? Does the head pressure of the tall skimmer body affect the ouput of those things?

with all that said, the Alita 100 I have pumping through 8 Aquatic-Eco stones doesn't seem to miss a beat, even after it was totally filled with SW. That is one heck of an air pump!

I have seriously considered moving to a NW but with a Sequence 4300. Unfortunately I haven't been able to buy a NW that will fit because the shaft on my Sequence is a different size. I have toyed with my own DIY "anti-needle wheel" but have not been able to tune it properly. I can get extremely minute bubbles but it cavitates before I can get a decent head of foam. As i am told, I need to inject the air from a different point and that should fix it.

Hopefully later this Winter I can work on that more. I have just been too busy lately. If mine works, it will put the power back in the "DIY" because anyone would be able to mod their pump impeller rather than just guys with CNC machines.

The other consideration is that my skimmer is working well as it is and running about 120W which makes it hard to really screw around with efficiency-wise. My skimmer's contact time is really insane. With the 2' neck you can watch as bubbles rise and fall flowing in all directions and it really pulls out some gunk.

However, I believe that as my reef and fish grow, I will want/need more skimming power. It's up in the air right now and I have a very experienced skimmer builder just a block away that is always hammering on me to switch to mazzei or full becket...Sherman likes to tinker and he sees my 50g skimmer as a vast pallete of opportunity! :D
