Scott- What's the total wattage on that big one Bill is running? Sorry I had to cut you off this morning...Wife, kid and neighbor all coming at me at once!

hey i have kids too so no big deal. we will talk again soon buddy.

the wattages bill is getting is not known. bill dont have a watt meter handy. i told him to order a kill a watt meter but he never had the time to. all i know it his power bill dropped alot after switching from the rk2 skimmer to his custom needle wheel skimmer. if i rember right he said some where between $80 to $100 a month less in power to run the skimmer. but that not for sure. maybe bill can chim in on his new thread and tell us exactly what his skimmer is dont for his power bill.

other wise i will bring a watt meter with me next time i go down there. he has the new ferrari so i need to get down there and test drive it.

Yeah, I got this set from Spazz. I made the last couple sets. Not too difficult with a jasper circle jig and plunge router. The ones spazz does are real slick though.

smjtkj did you every get real good nog out of this skimmer I was always wondering if the dart was too much for this size of skimmer?

and sorry it has to be done. Too many Saint fans in one thread.

DA BEARS!

Heck of year for you guys though...

Can someone tell me how to take the impeller off the dart pump, sorry it's not plainly obvious for me. TIA
On the back side of the motor you can see the shaft. There is a slot to use a screwdriver to keep the shaft from spinning.

Thanks a bunch, that was simple. Do you mind me asking some dart specific questions on your thread since most everyone I want to respond is already here? Or should I start a differant one.

I just talked to Sequence and have the beta version of what will be the NW refit kit for the dart (Orca) being shipped later in the week which will include the NW and the venturi. I would like to run this without a air pump and they are saying that preliminary dims indicate 20" high w/o air pump. I am thinking short and fat is the way to go here.
I think I am going to go with a square skimmer for the most part and think I can get most if not all parts cut from a single sheet of 3/8 cast acrylic. Right now I am thinking the reaction chamber will be a 22" cube. On top of that there will be a thermoformed riser (I have access to some pretty big ovens) maybe 12" that will lead to a 6" tube neck maybe 18 tall? Every transition will have a flange. Collection of skimmate will obviously be remote so the "cup" will probably just be 8" tube and act as the lid ring as well. Some of the first questions I have about this is in regards to the turbulance or controlling it rather. I remember some time ago there was a thread (think it was the tinymight thread) where we were talking about diffuser design and Klaus joined in and said that we were going about it wrong and the holes needed to be much larger. Has anyone found any truth to that thus far? Also I am thinking that the diffuser chamber would be square as well maybe 18" OD and 8" tall do you see any problems with that? I would like to stick to the NW vs the Mesh right now since this skimmer is likely to go into a place where it is cheaper to replace the entire pump rather than clean it. The dart I have is the AOsmith and not the Baldor so I will more than likely be using the heatsink collar that Spazz has mentioned, has anyone else done that yet?

I think you have a pretty sound design. IMOE the threadwheel pulls plenty air without an air pump and my skimmer is 42.5 inches tall and 14 inch od tubing. I am pretty sure that you would get more than enough air with the thread wheel.

Hello, I was looking at your skimmer build and I am truly impressed. I have a few questions. How big is the rizer tube and what is the diameter of your diffuser plate holes.

why not just add the air pump and just go 4 ft tall ( or as tall as possible for stand) nothing beats going taller on a skimmer for dwell time

here is a quick pic of mine.. i still have to redo a few things such as the diffuser and such but just plain ol skimmer is still pulling out more nasties than anything else i have ever seen....its lik 22" diamterer 4' tall chamber with a 8x15" riser.... holds about 100 gallons....
