Darth maul porites

I used a bandsaw. Everything cut well but it lightens up when cut and placed into different lighting. Still waiting to see some pics of others pieces. I know it's a rare piece but the small amount of images and overall sales of this coral is insane for how long it's been out!

Ok one more try for information and pictures of this coral until it falls back I to the archives of RC...
Where did it come from? I heard it was a hitchhiker originally, but who knows...

Also the pic I took was the coral sitting in a collection container and was took with flash on my iPhone.

Thanks for the killer frag Bro!!!!!

I'm holding this for "Purplereef"..........He can fill you in on where he got it.

Not the best pic...............I put it in a container and snapped this when I was shuffling things around in my tank.

It's really gotten more vivid in just a few weeks. I have it under a frag rack at the bottom of the tank with deflected flow.

The polyps extend out so it's seems pretty happy there.

Other than the algae on that plug that came with it, it looks great.

Great coral farming piper. A rare and beautiful piece for sure.

Thanks it means a lot coming from someone with such a beautiful tank! I guess coral farming is a good word to use since I only have a piece left half the size from which I started with, and did not do it for the money.

Cant wait to get mine piper :) so I can cross this one off my list too.

For sure! I will send you pics soon they are looking a little better everyday! I am glad I made a lot of people happy rather than hunting the money that I could have gotten from sitting on these frags with a high price tag! I was saddened to watch a few local "big boys" walk out with bankrolls and me walk out with lunch money... was also very offended to get lowballed on trades from the "big boys".

FWIW the first time I saw this coral was in Tomasz's house in early 2010, when he owned Paradise Corals in MI. He may have imported the first colony of it, he had quite a few unique things at that time, which have gone on to live in reef keeping infamy.

Therman thanks for the history. I do wonder exactly where it came from. I know the lineage of mine but it ends at some point just short of import. Here is the frag I am growing back out. There are a LOT of people here in the dmv with this coral now. There should be a lot more pics coming in this thread and hopefully this beautiful coral will continue to spread in my area so others can have it's great unique red color that I haven't seen in any other sps.

What's the deal with cherry corals darth maul porites? It's polyps are smaller and yellowish green instead of like the pic I just posted. Anyone know where that one came from?

Cherry sells a Darth Maul favia. I don't know of any porites they sell calling it Darth maul.

I don't want to post links so search for it. It must grow quick because it's cheap. Doesn't look anything like this one though.

Anyone have some pictures of this beauty to share? I am at that time where I make frags of this coral again and was hoping some people would have some pics to share.

I had some about a year ago, never colored up in my tank but stayed a pale pink. Tank crashed and lost it among my other pieces. I got mine from a guy in San Luis Obispo, CA. Wish I could get another for my current tank.

Anyone here have experience with this under LEDs?
