DA's 240 lagoon

Just read through this whole build. Sorry about the fish loss, that must of been hard. Your tank looks great. So clean, so nice, I love the islands you made. Looks really natural.

Damn man! You need to show that thing off more! The entire set up and stand looks great! The few pics you have posted dont do it justice. You have done a great job. Did they not send you any pictures from the photo shoot? I would think you should be able to post them here.

SApicoreef/ TommyP - Thanks for the kind words....

So I took a peak at the TDS meters yesterday while they were making water and noticed that TDS coming from the membrane was getting high. It was about time to replace the membranes and I have been planning on adding a booster pump as well. Houston water has steadily getting worse and I am starting to see pressure issues so I figured it was time. Previously I had two units crammed under the sink cabinet and always wanted an easier way to get to the units to change out filters so I built a slide out wall so I can get to the units without unhooking them. Finished so late that I forgot to take a pic... will post them tonight

I do have the pictures but I not suppose to post them until after they have used them. It makes such a huge difference having a photographer that knows what he is doing vs my terrible skills. When I first saw the pictures I just thought to myself wow it actually looks the same as it does in person. All my pics even after white balancing look like windex lol.

Ha Ha!!! You sound like me with my photography. Just don't make the mistake I made and buy a nice digital SLR thinking that it will make you a good photographer. Its not the camera!! :)

On one side of the pull out wall is the RO unit that fills the water change reservoir. I added the booster pump to see if I could get better water output and an acrylic drip tray at to catch any small drips.

A better shot of the pull out wall and the RO unit that fills the ATO container

The spread is real good actually. I could get away with 6 easy. I do have them at 14" above the water which is higher than normal. They are running at 54% at the peak of the day.

very very nice tank! love what you have done with it. love that you went with led and are having success there. hope the trip didn't hurt too bad. it is very hard to have someone that does not know our systems like we do take care of things. i am going on a two week trip next week myself and had too put my sps in a buddy's system just to feel safe , lol. keep the updates coming , looking really good.

Shazeone,

Trips are tough. The person I had looking after the tank is very good with tanks and decently familiar with my tank. It's just one of those things that only you really know how your tank works. Sometimes it's fine. others not so much.

That is the beauty of having local clubs. We can have members look after our tanks while we are gone.
How did it get done before the Internet?

Since I have always had an issue with detritus buildup in the sump. I guess with so much flow I kick up a lot of detritus in the DT and it ends up in the sump. It's a good thing but I need a better way to maintain a clean sump rather than emptying it and hitting it with a shop vac every month.

The original sump I built didnt incorporate socks but I added a hanger and running one seems to help. I just have to change it every couple days.

The new sump will utilize two socks running in sequence. My idea is to run the first with a 400 micron and the second with a 100 micron. The hope is that the majority of detritus gets filtered out with the first sock and the 100 has less so that it will last two data before I change it out. Both socks will be mesh for easy cleaning as well.

A quick sketch if the new sump design.

The water enters from the left section. I have 4 drains so the whole wall needs to be a drain section. That section the flows along the upper side where heaters and probes will be stored. This section is really only there because I have a large leg of the stand that prevents access to the section. I didn't want to put a sock there and have to deal with reaching to get it out. Next are the two filter socks. Around the corner is the main skimmer section, then the return.

Pretty simple. Time to get to work...

Man that's really REALLY cool! How many people can say that their tank is on the front cover of any magazine. Congrats!!!
