I have a bright yellow porites colony in my tank that I just cant make happy no matter wher I seem to put it in the tank.

Rather than letting it strugle to stay alive I am going to see if any of you with well established tanks can make it happy...

I just ask that after it recovers that I get a nice frag to try again with...
every coral in my tank is doing awesome except this one.

send me a PM if you have a good established tank to let it recover in...

No....all of my other corals are doing exceptional, this one started being unhappy when I went to the 20k lights so I am assuming that is the problem...
I have put it high in the tank and low in the tank with no improvement. I need to get it to another aquarium soon or its going to be to late...I have a couple of offers so I will probably frag it into 2 pieces and send them in different directions in hope of making sure one of them survive.

I would help you out, but I would hate to lose it for you. I also have 20K 250 MH with 440 watts of VHO. So, if it is the 20K you are worried about I am out also.

From looking at your tank thread einstein the only thing I can come up with is that your tank is too clean. You don't seem to have a scrap of green algae anywhere in the tank and some of your SPS including the big monster seem light.

I don't know just brainstorming here.

I use a low nutrient system...
but the porites were fine in that same enviroment until the bulb change....maybe the combination is just not making it happy.

Is it the "Z" word?
In the sps forum there is quite a bit over talk over low nutrient system causing coral lighting and it is generally tied into discussion of photo period as well. To sum it up some believe the ultra low nutrient system starve out the coral ability to protect itself from too much light. Possibly the new brighter bulbs trigger this and as to the best of my knowledge porties are generally found in more turbid dirty water than most acro your porites might have been effected first.

Shooting holes in my own theory you do have LPS and softies so I might be totally wrong.

When you say it is unhappy what is happening?

I recently started feeding my tank a lot more, I see a little algae here and there, but the corals are loving me for it. I have really good growth on stuff and my colors are geting better. I have also noticed that my skimmer is working less and less everyday to keep up with the increased food, looks like my tank is catching up biologically to the amount of food so I expect to see the algae disappear again soon.

If you frag it I can babysit one for you for awhile. Your more then welcome to come by and see my junk to see if it is suitable for the coral.

I am using Prodibio not Z...(I am not ready to mortgage my house for the z system)
My tank is almost exclusively SPS
I have started to increase my feeding also... just installed a Kalkwasser reactor to stabilize pH a bit.
it is just thinning out and slowly receding I need to get it fragged and out to other tanks soon.

Thanks....I will be fragging it in the next day or so...
