Thanks Marcus for posting pics, and with your help .The stand is 96 x 24.5 x 37.Planning on 3/4'' burch for the skin, and 1'' plywood for the top.I have talked to few people and they believe it will work. When the new glass is in place I will fill it half way for a couple of days then fill it up.Will let stand full for awhile before draining.( If it don't leak) Shane you have first dibs
Are you planning on putting your truck up there to do oil changes and such?
Just kidding, but with all those 2x6's and 3/4" plywood and 1" plywood on top that thing is going to weigh a ton. Also...on an 8' horizontal run, I would put one more vertical support in the center, or it may start to sag.
I would put in the center support, and use 1/4" plywood for the skin. It is not structurally needed...it is just for show.
I know it is overkill,Planing on 2 2x6 spaced 24'' apart on the back and 1 the front.May go with 1/2'' on the top.Already got the 3/4 burch, they didn't have 1/4 or 1/2. They would order it for me ,but would have to order a min of 10 sheets.
One thing I did that I thought worked well was to buy an excercise equipment mat from sears. They are about $20 and about 3'x8' it is about 1/4" thick and remids me of wet suit material.
I glued strips of this to the very bottom to help get it perfectly level and the rest I lined the bottom of the inside with. Makes for easier clean up and helps kill any pump vibration.
Ducklabdad, That thread has a lot of info,I went with the basic design.Everything is level so far.
Goibot I like the idea of the rubber mat.The inside of the stand will be sealed and a 1''x1'' around the edges to hold any water spillage. Thanks for the info guys.
Like Richard said that baby is going to weigh a ton ... definitely structural if nothing else ... if you're roof ever starts to sag ..scoot that baby in there to brace it up ....
I noticed that the corner supports do not overlap the joints on the top and bottom rails. I am no carpenter so I don't really know if this is absolutly needed or not. The progress is looking good though.
