Day 3 and questions

Excellent....I will wait and be patient and test in a week and see how things are doing. It makes sense that the nitrates reading is off because of the nitrites. Makes sense (sort of).

While nitrites can cause incorrect nitrate readings its totally expected to see nitrates in a tank during this process and on.. Its part of the nitrification process..
Ammonia is converted to nitrites which is converted to nitrates which if you are lucky and have sufficient bacteria those nitrates will be converted to nitrogen gas and leave the tank on their own through bubbles/consumption by critters/corals,etc...

Many are not so lucky to have it happen on its own perfectly like nature (well like nature would be if we didn't muck it up :) ) and need to do other things to "export" nutrients from a tank..
This could be through macro algae or skimming or carbon dosing or phosphate media or algae turf scrubbers or more rock,etc...
