DC pump upgrade?

So I have a Supermarian 200 with the 1500 Red Dragon AC pump. I have been thinking it is kind of old and will need a new pump down the road (nothing wrong with it right now). What is a good DC pump to look for? My tank is a 270G with a 55g sump.

The only DC pump would be the RD3 50 but I'd stick with the AC pump for the time being. The newer Supermarin have had some subtle design changes to make them more efficient with the RD3. You'd likely need to increase your sump level with the RD3 and there is nothing wrong with the performance of the RD1500 on that skimmer. Those pumps will last indefinitely with routine mainenance so there should be nothing for you to worry about unless you just want to spend the money.

Oh no. I do not want to spend money. I was just thinking if it went out what my plan of attack would be. With this pump not being made anymore I was looking for an alternative.

That pump is still being made and and is still being support. As mentioned above, it’s also the pump that skimmer was designed to be used with. We also stock the replacement motors and impellers in Ft. Myers Florida for North American customers and in Germany for international customers.

Awesome, Thank you. I thought it was discontinued. That makes me feel better now. It has been going strong for quite some time

Clean it every 4-5 months inside and out per the instructions in the sticky thread in the top of our forum here and it will last you MANY MANY more years!
