DC vs. External

Hey all, Im currently using a Blueline 70HD. Its got wicked power, but it consumes the same. Im not a huge fan of the noise but its not the end of the world

Im preparing for an in wall build in a new house and Ive come across the Jebao DC12000 for about $150 shipped.

Power consumption is basically 30% of the Blueline. Controllable power seems more ideal than choking the extra flow.

So what is everyones opinions on the new waves of DC pumps, it appears they pretty much all come from the same place.

i have the jebao, so far its one of the better additions to the tank, i run it on 70% and its running my tank and reactors, i replaced a reeflo snapper because it was just too loud, the jebao is really quiet.
heres a video i took to show it in action but keep in mind its actually almost silent, my cameras mic is very sensitive, close to the end i turn my skimmer on and close the stand up and you can hear the air sucking from my skimmer over the pump.

Some seem to claim reliability issues with early gen of the dc pumps.... But from what people post on here most of those reliability issues have been fixed

Yea 70hd is a beast with noise comparable to its power :( As long as you do not need a pressure rated pump You can do much better. If not one of the dc pumps possibly a bubbleblaster or even a Laguna pond pump aka askoll.

fluval sea sp6. Excellent pump, I am running on my manifold. Quietest pump I have ever seen!

I need a pressure rated for my skimmer. I have a goby gold for my return tho. 3400 gph. What pumps can I look at that are considerably the same

I think you will be very limited on the pumps you can use, not sure if any of the new dc pumps are pressure rated for running a skimmer.

Iwaki 70 might be a improvement, I always preferred them to blue line pumps. Not sure if sequence has something that would work or possibly performance pro. I use performance pro pumps on my ponds. I can hear them a few feet away but quieter vs a blue line 40hd I had years ago.

If it was me.... I would consider getting a skimmer that doesn't need a pressure rated pump, that is if noise is a concern. If its not a concern just run what you already have :)

Noise is a big concern/issue for me

I already have the skimmer. It's a beast. I'm not worried about the noise. I'm not looking for a DC pump for my skimmer. I was wondering about one for my return pump. Anyone using them in basement set ups?
Sorry I wasn't very clear in my original post

My Jebao showed up today, ridiculously fast directly from China. Ill put some feedback up once I get into my build thread and get it setup.

Did get your Dc pump installed? How is it working. We are in the same position and will be very interested in your review.

It'll be a couple of weeks before I get it setup.

The initial hands on is that it looks nicely built. All of the cables seem to have quality shielding on them. The motor-controller cable is actually a waterproof threaded DIN connector, which is cool.

I have a Jebao 12000 running the return on 6- 40 breeder tanks. max height of the tanks is 7' I was going to run a mag 24. Then I saw the 12000. The 24 runs at about 265 watts. The 12000 is 85 watts and pumps more gph. I will be using my tanks for breeding and will not need all of them going at one time so having the adjustable flow is a plus. I'm giving it a thumbs up. Also I had it in three days from china.
