DD clam acclimation

What is the protocol for acclimating a clam after it has been shipped? I have been doing some reading and it seems some claim to drip it for about an hour others say that if the salinity and temp are the same you can just add it. What do you guys think?

i recommend you drip those clams. they are very sensitive. fish and CUC i just toss in. anemones and clams I always drip

last DD clam I got, I dripped for 1hr. also pay attention to water temperature. clam opened up within an hour in DT.

I thought prime was for chlorine? I wouldn't add any chemicals to the bag. I know this is probably later and the clan is already acclimated. But during a drip acclimation you should slowly remove some water as needed and that would remove contaminants like a water change.

How did it go? Is the clam opening well?

Hasn't arrived yet schedules to be delivered before 10 30 est time. Whole prime is useful for chlorine it also locks ammonia making it less toxic

Ok just drip acclimated for an hour the plopped it in the dt. Came completely shut and after an hour acclimation it was half way open in the cooler. I did have a little bit of temp difference when I added but it seems like it's already opening a little so we will see when lights cone on later.

Also they aren't messing around with the size on the dd clams. Mine is tiny!

If the temp difference was negligible you should be fine. Make sure it's got a good place on some rock and in direct light and you should be good. They do not kid about sizes at dd.

You really bought a clam before you researched it at ALL?
Shows a lot.... I hope you at LEAST know how to burp them, feed, lighting, water, etc.

Good luck.... Poor clam lol

Huh? I've never had a clam shipped to me before...but its the internet so just be rude instead. Also my post was about how I was doing research but saw a split consensus. I guess reading comprehension isn't your strongest point.

As for lighting I have a ATI 6 bulb sunpower over an 18 inch deep tank so I'm pretty sure I've got it covered.

Didn't he only ask about acclimation because there are a variety of ways to do it? FWIW I have never dripped acclimated clams. I only temp match and if salinity is close I put them in after temp has adjusted. Never had an issue doing this over the years.

Well it's up to ourselves to take what ever methods to provide a stable environment for our "pets" and we won't all agree on the single best method to acclimate. How is the clam?

Clam is doing pretty well but I'm having a hard time finding a spot in the tank that is low enough flow for it. I have a minimalist scape with high flow so most places its getting its mantle ruffled pretty bad. I got it up in the rock work next to a dip where its somewhat sheltered from one vortech and 25 inches from the other but it is still unhappy with the flow

I have struggled with the exact same thing. It can be hard to find a spot for them, and when you find one they might not like it for some reason we have no idea of and leave! I have placed the clams so the incoming flow is directed at their incurrent syphon and not the side of the shell to help keep the mantle from folding over. That has worked in some instances for me. Good Luck!

And my clam loves to lay on one side and hates to have current hitting a it in siphon. All clam are unique. I've had to learn to let them do their own thing after a while.
