DD Majestic Angel

Good morning/afternoon, I purchased the 2 3/4" Euxiphipops navarchus from the Divers Den and am expecting delivery on Thursday morning. In order to be as well prepared as possible, I'm looking for a little information if available to you in the near future. I believe it shipped from the CA facility if that makes any difference.

1. What specific gravity is/has this fish been kept at?
2. What temps?
3. What foods has it been eating?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Thanks for the speedy reply and the details. My QT system already matches that, and I have all but the MM Angel food on hand so I'm good to go. I'll pick some up in the morning. How soon after arrival and acclimation should I wait before trying to feed?

I'll let you know how he shows up.

Thanks again

CAreefer,

Thank you for your reply. It sounds like you are well prepared and this beautiful Angelfish will be going to a great home. After acclimation, we recommend leaving the lights off in your aquarium for at least four hours and waiting until the following day to feed your new arrival.

Wow you guys are quick. Thanks again for the reply. Will do on the dark period and hold off on feeding until the following day.

I have a 5 1/2" Majestic, awesome fish! In addition to the above foods, mine loves the Julian Sprungs purple algae sheets, followed by the green nori.

I use two algae clips because some tangs are involved for the food competetion.

Thanks Doug. I've got the JS veggies in the can, but no sheet.

I received the angel about 10:50 am and just finished acclimating him. A little pale around the head, but then again, I probably would be too after what he just went through!

Right now he's just hanging out in the Live Rock in the QT tank. Kind of twitching a bit, breathing is a little rapid, but not so that I'm overly concerned. The tank is dark and I'm going to let him alone till tomorrow and see how things are. I've got a red bulb I'll check on him periodically.

Well, it's Saturday morning and the Majestic still hasn't eaten much of anything. Tasted a few things and spit them back out from what I can tell. I've tried-

H20 frozen clam on the half shell (picked at one, but none since)
Mega Marine Angel
Frozen brine
Frozen mysis
Frozen Formulas 1 & 2
H2O life cyclops and rots
Live brine
Ocean nutrition sheet green and brown (all that my LFS carries, no purple)
Ocean nutrition flake- formula 1 & 2, enriched brine
Julian Sprung sea veggies

He is alone in a QT tank. It is only a 10 gallon, (but it is only <3" fish). Breathing and swimming appear normal. I'm thinking of picking up a couple small blue/green reef chromis to put in with him just to give company and maybe get him out into the water column to feed. I'm also going to run by the grocery store and see what they have for live clams. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

CAreefer,

Thank you for contacting us. We recommend holding the feedings for today as you listed quite a large amount of foods. The fish may still be acclimating and not ready to eat just yet. When feeding we also recommend soaking the foods in Garlic Xtreme it will help stimulate the fish’s appetite. Letting the Angelfish go for a day just adjusting to the aquarium will benefit the fish.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Stacie, thanks for the quick response, I didn't expect to hear back today. I have soaked the various foods in Garlix Xtreme and it hasn't helped. It does sound as if I've dumped a ton of food in there, but only a few pieces of each were put in, the rest was fed to the display tank. I did not offer any food for the first 24 hrs as recommended. All food was removed after 10 minutes as well. I will give him some more time to adjust.

Thanks again for the great service
Don't you guys ever take a day off?

While we are on the subject of this fish, how reef safe are they? SPS safe, LPS safe, clam safe, etc,?

Steve, from the research I've done, to SPS they are as "safe" as a Regal. SPS is my focus so I didn't look much further. I do have one large T. deresa and it may be at risk later on as the Majestic gets bigger, but I knew that going in. I have a few rogue paly's I'm hoping it will clean up TBH.

CAreefer and Snorvich,

It’s great that you removed the food. It’s possible this fish is just a little more shy since he just shipped. It may take him more time to adjust to the surroundings. Soaking the food in Garlic is great as it will help boost his immune system.

We class Angelfish as caution with Reef tanks. Angelfish may nip at large-polyped stony corals, an occasional soft coral and clam mantles, but may be kept with small-polyped stony corals and somewhat noxious soft corals.

We strive to provide the best customer service possible and are always here for any questions you may have.
