Dead Croceas?

WHAT'S GOING ON?!!!!! My Crocea died a week ago and now the other one died!In the second one I noticed that he wouldn't fully retract the night before. I wake up today to find him dead on the rock ledge! My lighting is the standard Biocube lighting. I have them for three months. I checked my calcium, and salinity, and I ran out of alkalinity tests. I'll measure those today. What could have caused this?

if you truly ad croceas, i think your biocube lighting may have played a part in their deaths.....PC's GENERALLY do not have enough par to sustain a light loving clam for LONG periods of time....

that being said tho, you should give us you other tests also such as CAL, ALK, MAG, SG, TEMP, N03, and PO4....once this is done we all will have more insight into what is going on in your tank

im not they WONT because those are fighting words in the clam forum, but lets just say.....stay away from croceas and maximas until you choose to upgrade your lights.

On the other hand, if you were planning on changing lights I would go with the 150W Sunpod MH. This will allow you to keep clams.....

I would consider low lights a slow kill, but if you say that they died instantly that might have been due to an immature tank. Clams are one of the most finicky inverts to newly setup tanks, so I ask you how long has your tank been setup?

Your lighting was certainly a concern, but how recent were these clams added. I have heard a lot of discussion recently (some through direct involvement) of a lot of croceas coming in recently from Vietnam that have a mysterious pathogen that not only kills the clam in short order, but also infects, and kills the other clams in the tank. Did you just recently acquire these clams? What symptoms did you see?
