Dead/Dying Fish and Coral disposal

What's your way of disposing of dead/dying fish and coral? Down the drain? In the Trash? Buried in the Dirt?

I know a lot of people put the coral skeletons in their calcium reactors. As far as DYING fish, the human way would be submergence in clove oil. It puts them in a comma before death. Some just flush others freeze, but I've read it's the most humane way is with the clove oil. Disposal practices are a different subject. Especially with algae. Most say flushing is probably the worst because it is reintroduced into the waters at some point. That is why calupera is banned in California and some other states. I would say trash or compost heap for all things once living, with coral skeletons going into the reactor.

Definitely not down the toilet for anything, anymore. The traditional graveyard for state fair gold fish is out for anything as the least little thing can cause problems.

fish are good for fertilizer......
My grandfather buried a 4 foot carp he once caught in my grandmothers flower bed.

Ive heard that a quick way of killing a dying fish is just a quick slice behind the head, neve done it though. I use clove oil.

i agree that flushing any form of sea life down the drain is a danger just waiting to happen, look at what happened to the mediterranian when some foreign algia got into it. best is to place in the trash i doubt that any for of ecological hazard would get nulled when its added to a trash heep.

Whats I caught a leather jacket (just like a trigger) and it was big.
Im not heard that smashing the fish's head with a huge stone will kill it the fastest way. So thats what we did to the leather jacket and he was gona in a matter of micro seconds. LOL IT WAS FUNNY THOUGH!

I don't know about fish, but the most painless way to go for a human is freezing.

Jimmy Hoffa??:smokin:

Kar93, the "quick slice behind the head" method is actually severing the spinal cord. I read somewhere that only a vet should attempt it. Perhaps there is a vet or marine biologist reading this who would like to provide more info on this method?

Back to someone's earlier point, I recognize the danger of flushing algae or dead fish down the toilet, but isn't there plenty of algae cells in the water you remove from the tank while doing a water change? Don't most people flush this water, or am I just ignorant? Regardless, I live in Minnesota so I assumed that no algae that gets flushed finds its way to the ocean. Is that not right?

All of my trash, well the vegetables and garden junk, goes into a huge compost heap! It makes for great black dirt!!
