Dead female clown... Does my male become a female now?

I picked up two allardi clowns two months ago. One was larger and one was much smaller. The larger one took my nem and wouldn't allow the smaller one close to it. The larger one didn't seem to do well and today I noticed it stop eating. By night time it was upside down and im thinking she's a goner.

So does my small one become a male now? Do I find a really small allardi or should I find a large that's female? Now sure how long it will take for my current male to turn female.

Also, if I can't locate an allardi, can I pick up something else like a percula or Ocellaris?

Below a certain size they are neither male nor female, and even a functional male will need a submissive partner to turn into a female.

I would advise against mixing ocellaris and percula with clarkii complex species - it is highly unlikely that such a pairing will work out well.

A store here just got some clowns in that look like allardi, and they usually get their fish from the wholesalers in L.A.. So with some luck you may find an allardi in Orange County or L.A. Otherwise just see if your LFS (Aquatic Warehouse?) can order one or two for you with their next shipment.

Small. I doubt that the store or the wholesaler could tell the difference between male and female.
