dead spots in a tank

Hey guys im new to the reef thing. my tank is still in the stages of being setup. But from what ive been reading is that dead spots are a big no no. im going to be drilling my dry rock for the tank coming up this next week. after ive got it in the tank ready for the water. while it cycles is there a good way to check for dead spots? something you can add to the water to watch how it flows? :beachbum:

I always thought this would be a great product to market. When I feed brine shrimp it tends to do the trick as far as finding dead spots though.

You'll see them once you're full. Its not so technical as to need something to visualize flow. Just look for any place where detritus and debris collects. There is enough stuff floating around a tank that you will notice any places that are not getting flow before they become a problem.

i guess im just afraid i might not see them. i have the back of the tank painted black. when it gets pushed back to the wall i just wonder if ill be able to tell if it flows behind the rocks well
