Dead Tang

My Hippo tang died about 3 inches in my tank i have a 240 with over 300 lbs of Live rock do I leave him in there or do i move all the rocks till i find him I have plenty of coral as well.

Will be nitrates go up

I;ve left fish like that in the aquarium. ALOT of people will disagree. but with some good crabs and fish he'll be gone in a day

I have no crabs what would you recomend that are reef safe and how many

with a ninty gallon you could get away with about 25-40 hermit crabs. Plus they eat on a bunch on the bad stuff on rocks

but with no crabs, I would see what I could do to get him out.

I will pick up some hermit crabs I assume they are reef safe

yeah I have about 35 in my tank. Check out live aquaria algea attack pack, they come with some good ones, and snails.

Be sure to get some extra shells larger than the largest of those you get. Also nassarius snails are good undertakers.

Did you see it die? Just asking because if you can't find it, how do you know it's dead? Hippos have a tendency to go into hiding from time to time.

My son saids he was lying at bottom of tank being bothered by other tang and just went behind rocks I have an 8 feet by 18inch by 20 inch wall of rock

Let me know if you get the crabs. If you can't get them, the crabs will make short work of him

I wouldn't worry about it. With that much rock, I'm sure you have enough microscopic and other critters to have already eaten something so small. I've had much larger fish reduced to bones in a day. Your probably too late for crabs anyway. Do a water change.

2nd tang died from ich he was lying on bottom and i was able to pull him out it was a powder brown

i added 40 hermit crabs will test nitrates tomorow everything looks good tested for amonia its at 0 thats what would rise correct
