Death in the Tank this A.M.

My long-spined black sea urchin that hitch-hiked on my rock. Was belly up and dead this a.m. Trying to figure out why? Do you suppose the Mantis did him in? Or is it more likely the ammonia swings < although it hasn't peaked that high and I have been dilligent with my water changes> did it--or just that there wasn't enough food source in the new tank for it?
Some of the spines had fallen out but I'm not sure that means he was attacked.
Just curious...

Unless he has dropped his spines, or they are all laying flat...he is ok..

Nope...dropped spines and what he had left were flat. He was dead. Just not sure why or what happened?

It happens...not the mantis though.....was his time I guess.....did ya check out the pics of the new rock?
