Decision on HD Silicone?

I can't seem to find the thread again, but was there ever a decision on DAP being Reef Safe?

I need to finish my sump, but the only LFS doens't carry silicone, and I'd rather not wait ANOTHER week (atleast) for an online order to show up.

I have used the GE type I Silicone on many projects. Just make sure it doesn't have any mildew resistant substance in it. I think it is GE II that has that stuff. Just get the one without it!

I went and looked and it appeared that both Type I and Type II were "Mildew resistant".

I couldn't tell if they were just advertising a property of silicone, or if they both had additives.

GE I & II come in two types. Kitchen & Bath and Window & Door. Which one are you looking at? W&D doesn't have the anti mold/mildew additive.

Yes, GE I does have "Biosheild" or something like that in it now! It doesn't matter which one you look at... they both have it, and it is a mildew resistant additive. It was recently released, so you may get lucky and still find the kind w/o it, but any new bottles will have it!

THats wrong. GE I doesnt have it, if you get windows and doors. Previously, neither one had it in windows and doors, now GE II does.

GE I Window and Door shouldn't have anything in it but silicone and is OK to use.

I have a tube of GE 1, windows and doors, that has the bioshield in it...

The GE I that I buy doesn't have anything except 100% Silicone. It's all over my aquarium and has been fine since I started mine up.

I just bought 2 tubes of the GE1 Doors & Windows and it does NOT have Bio Shield, just Silicone...

Okso I went to K-Mart (I HATE THAT PLACE) and found a single tube of Dap/Dow 100% Without Mildew products in it.

Conclusion:

GE I and GE II Can BOTH be found with and without BioShield. The key is to find it, and buy it without BioShield.

Pretty simple...
