deep blue lights

why are all of the LFS selling these light fixtures all of a sudden. I hadn't heard of them before so I researched a bit online and found some threads on here complaining about how bad these fixtures are. are these really that awful? if so then why would my LFS try to sell these to me?! :hammer:

Because many LFS (not all) sell saltwater fish and supplies because they have to not because they have any interest in them. Keep in mind it is also hard for an LFS to get in a wide selection of lights on the off chance someone may come in looking for that specific one. All too often they have it and the potential purchaser wants to go home and think about it. AKA shop the internet looking for a better deal. The the LFS is stuck.....

This is why it's so important to build that relationship and throw them a bone from time to time. Let them order that new toy for you, so what if they charge $20 more than DisountFredsOnlineSaltwaterEmporium. Chances are you'll get it back when you go in looking for frags or livestock. They'll remember that you bought that $700 light from them instead of from the online guy who had it for $650.

If it's a junk store...then by all means......don't support the business....

I started one of those threads myself, and I can tell you they are much cheaper than many of the alternatives. But just remember, you tend to get what you pay for, especially in this hobby. Bear that in mind if you plan on keeping it long term.

Now that my LFS replaced my defective Deep Blue fixture, I'm happy with it as much as I can be. I bought it as a cheap temporary fix understanding I would likely upgrade to a MH/LED fixture.

Well said, msr224. Its always good to establish a relationship with your LFS...that is, if they are a reputable store.

these are the lights I'm talking about just for anyone who hasn't seen these yet. They have popped up in both of my LFS. http://www.aquariumlighting.com/Wholesale_Only/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=274&products_id=4283&osCsid=0b26f60f4e190ad7fd65ffdfd0350ac6

the 36" goes for around $300 something I think. which at $600 for 2 of these that I would need for my 72" tank, I'd rather fish out another $100 for an ATI sunpower. the sunpower might not have programmable abilities or LEDs but I can sure stick some LEDS to it for moonlighting!

I was just baffled that I was considering these lights because they were a little cheaper and the store seemed really nice. I was let down when I came online to research and found complaints and there is no way to contact the seller on their website, it's very plain. any other thoughts on this?

oh and this was the only light the one LFS was offering. but they said they could order anything I wanted.
