Deep blue tank reviews?

I did my herbie by running my return lines up and over the back of the tank. Easy way if you don't mind that look

Exactly how I did mine. I use the return hole in the overflow as the backup drain and run my return up and over the side. My tank is in my basement workshop so I'm not too concerned with aesthetics as I am functionality. So far it works just fine. Only thing I don't like about herbie is the fluctuating water levels as the filter socks clog up, but that has nothing to do with the tank itself. I believe the db tanks have something similar to star fire, but from what I have read "star fire" is a trademarked term. As far as scratching goes, honestly I haven't seen it happen yet, and I'm not the most careful person. I've had rocks hit te glass, picked up bits of sand with my mag float etc and have yet to see any scratches. It's good enough for me, I just wish the overflow kit was optional like aga does, it would be even cheaper....

I just looked up the Illuminata....does it only come in a 57 gallon?

yes, just the 57g for the illuminata. I've had mine set up for a year - quality top notch, great support for the company (oceanic) (just contacted them to buy - but decided to not use - the glass top for it). on this thread cause looking for potentially swapping for larger 75 or 80.

Hmm I never saw an issue with getting an illuminata and the pricing is very comperable. Of course I love my CAD tank and if I ever bought another tank I would go CAD.

I thought about CAD a lot . Nice tanks . Yes the Oceanic and DB57 used to be about 10 2 20 dollars difference . Now it is like 125 ..
No CAD dealer around here and I am not too keen on shipping via freight .
The overflow in the DB 57 is quiet . All I can hear is a trickle from the anti siphon hole I drilled . No gurgling at all using a Eheim 1260 pump . I don't like a lot of flow from a return pump so that may be why it's quiet .

Keep coming back to my thread. I need a bigger tank than a 57 because of my wrasses. But I'm still liking the DB. It's all about preference I guess. Thanks for all the replies. I'm assuming that the ones who own the DB have the stand to go with it?

i bought my stand from a manhattan reef member, i dont know what brand it is, but it had a solid top with a rectangular cutout for the overflow piping...its not the same particle board garbage that the aga stands are made of.

I'm not happy with my stand. It's pine, black and shows salt water streaks like crazy. Plus, the doors are so small I can't get squat in or out of it. I SO need to get my skimmer out and clean it but it isn't happening until I move and tear down my tank. I'm wanting to get a better look at the DB stand and see if it has better access with that side door. Hopefully, it's decently made.
Can anyone who has this take some pics and post them??
