Pros: Yet another natural way to reduce nutrients in our systems. IMO when paired up with a refugium both of adequate size can provide all the nutrient reduction needed. If to small though its not worth much.
Cons: People don't read well and tend to needlessly disturb them causing issues. then blame the DSB for problems in their system.
And
Room. Most don't have the room or means to add one sized large enough for it to be beneficial. But they try it anyway and then say its not doing its job which leads to the previous con.
Yes I know my thoughts are pretty vague but its really how I see it.
Either way can work just fine when done properly, really I would base this decision on the animals you plan to keep.
I've always kept sand dwelling sea anemone's that require a DSB, so that is what I've always done.
Caribsea special seaflor grade is my preference.
