deep sand bed or not?

Hi i was wondering what are the pros and cons of having a deep and bed and is there a particular substrate that is best for this?

Pros: Yet another natural way to reduce nutrients in our systems. IMO when paired up with a refugium both of adequate size can provide all the nutrient reduction needed. If to small though its not worth much.

Cons: People don't read well and tend to needlessly disturb them causing issues. then blame the DSB for problems in their system.
And
Room. Most don't have the room or means to add one sized large enough for it to be beneficial. But they try it anyway and then say its not doing its job which leads to the previous con.

Yes I know my thoughts are pretty vague but its really how I see it.

In the display? I vote no. Not worth it as it needs to be at least 4-6" deep and can't be disturbed.

In a remote fuge that is large enough to provide adequate surface area? Sure, as long as it is deep enough and is never disturbed.

Ok thanks for your input ive only got a nano tank my substrate is only around an inch deep should i vaccum the debris up and turn the sand over?

At an inch or less you should regularly vacuum the junk out of the sand. Just replace the sand every now and then as needed.

Either way can work just fine when done properly, really I would base this decision on the animals you plan to keep.
I've always kept sand dwelling sea anemone's that require a DSB, so that is what I've always done.
Caribsea special seaflor grade is my preference.
