Deep sand bed or shallow

So which one is a deep sand bed in the main display or a shallow (1-2 inches) one with a deep sand bed in the refugium?

I heard both sides. I did a dead sand bed in my first tank and it seemed to work fine, but this tank is much smaller; 58 vs 75.

What do you think?

i used as little sand in my 90 gal as possible. just enough to cover the bottom, like prob 1/2 inch. you dont want dangerous gases and nitrates to get trapped in your sand. also i clean my sand on every water change.

If you want to keep jawfish, deep sand/rubble/shell bed. Otherwise shallow will be fine. Remember rock on glass and fill in sand around it.

I have a DSB, there is evidence that it could release dangerous gases as Jr said, so do it at your own risk. I have had mine for about 2 years no prob. I even have a remote DSB as well. IMO, shallow sand beds look nicer.
