Deionization question

I recently purchased a new ro/di unit from http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm (the unit on the bottom w/ 2 di units) and am running into some problems. I recently moved into a house with city water (240ppm) and no water softener and have already burnt up 1.25 di cartridges to make only 100 gallons of water. What would cause the di to get exhausted so quickly?

Wow a Bears fan from Minnesota. Cool :D

When you say you burned it up already, are you saying your TDS out of the Di is high ?

Billybeau1 - DA Bears! I am still getting 0 tds out of my unit because I have dual DI cartridges. The first cartridge and 1/4 of the second have already been exhausted (turned amber). I stiil have 3/4 of the second cartridge left.

Well mine changed color pretty quick but continues to produce 0 TDS. I wouldnt worry about the color change as long as your TDS is 0. 240 ppm out of the tap is not that bad. I've seen a lot worse. :)

Billybeau1 - I moved from a town 5 miles down the road and my tds readings went from 450ppm to 240ppm.

Just keep testing the water production. If you have a dual stage DI unit (separate Anion and Cation) then you can probably manually recharge the cartridges instead of buying new ones.

Tim as I indicated in the PM check you tap water PH if it is five or lower you would have high CO2 levels which will exhaust your DI very fast. Your system and membrane seem to be working correctly.
