How you do have your tunze's pointing/cycling on/off?

They are both in the back corners pointed at each other along the back wall. I have them set they cycle one minute on/off. Only one is on at a time. I find that one running for a full minute is enough to get a fairly strong circular motion going in the tank where the flow in the front of the tank is directionally opposite the flow in the back of the tank, then they switch the next minute.

I have since removed the koralia in the January FTS and only use the two Tunzes.

Sump in a disorganized state. lol.

Preachin to the chior buddy. My basement has become one big fish room...and with all work in progress and 5 tanks and a 6th taking up space waiting to be filled and the glass for 3 DIY monsters and 3 sump systems in constant flux. I know what you mean and I've just accepted it and adopted it as my new home state. That is the disorganized one.

Nice thread. ;)

Yeah it's amazing how much stuff one acquires due to this hobby, it sure takes up a lot of space!

Lol, spaghetti jungle, I like that. :D Mine started out neater but has slowly deteriorated as I added stuff and made changes. You're right, not trying to impress anyone with the sump. As long as the corals look nice I figure it's doing its job

A few macro shots

Yep, the primary purpose of those things is to prevent smaller particles of GFO or carbon from making its way into the tank. It doesn't seem to be a concern when using the reactor for zeostones. Even the smallest zeostones still won't fit through the plastic screen.

Nice Macros, is that one an ultimate blue stag it looks like it has some green in it.

It's the KEEPERZ stag. I have also thought it looks pretty similar to the ultimate stag. Under high light it turns a light blue with green tipped corallites.

Deklin, your tank is an inspiration.

Since you run the zeo stones I'm wondering whether you keep your water parameters according to those required by the zeovit system. For instance, my understanding is that zeo requires Alk in the 6-7 range and any deviation can have negative effects.

I try to keep my alk around 8 dKH, calcium at 450 and magnesium at 1400. It seems to work well and I haven't noticed any problems if my parameters are around these levels.

I did experience the tips burning from high alk in a bacteria system once but it was before I started running the zeostones and I was dosing vodka at the time. I think my alk was around 9-10 dKH. I dropped it down as soon as I noticed the problem and they recovered in a couple weeks.

Great Tank deklin,

Do you dose vodka or any other carbon source for your bacteria system. Do you only dose zeobak when you change theh stones or dose it weekly?

do you also run any phospate remover like rowaphos?

thanks

Aaron

Hey Deklin-Stunning tank!!! It has such a majestic look! Great job.

I too would like to know some info about your Zeostone dosing. I am thinking about starting Zeostones. I would use them in the exact manner that you do. I'm interesting in using them basically because I feel that GFO is a less efficient way to export Po4 and I want to start feeding more so I just want to have the edge on the phosphates. So here are a few questions for ya;

*Did you dose any carbon source before adding Zeostones?

*Can you still run carbon with them?

*Did you have any negative affects after starting?

I know that I need to hop onto Zeos forum and do some research first, I just haven't had the time to really dig into it yet. Any help that you can provide would be awesome! Thanks

I dose zeobak every night for the first week after changing the stones and then weekly after that. I dose zeofood in conjunction with the zeobac. I dose amino acids 4-5 times a week. Both provide a carbon source for the micro organisms. I don't do any other carbon dosing besides this.

I do not use any GFO or phosphate remover.

Thanks! I used to dose vodka and run GFO and had similar thoughts to you. I stopped both of them when I added the zeostones and zeobac to my system. I do feel like the stones and zeobac combo are more efficient at removing PO4 from the system. I believe you could still dose vodka or run GFO but I haven't had a need since my PO4 is held in check now and I've never had a problem with nitrates due to severly overskimming my system.

I run activated carbon in a filter bag in my frag tank overflow area that I change out every few weeks.

I didn't really notice any negative affects after starting although I had read several cases were people had. I was very cautious and used well below the recommended amounts. I slowly upped the amounts I used over maybe a 6 month time period but I still use less stones than are recommended for my water volume.

Great looking system! I am looking forward to adding a Fiji purple this summer when replacing my bulbs.

Keep up the good work!
