I am returning a tunze 9010 because i do not have a sump and this skimmer is too large for my tank...i am considering de deltecmce600 as a replacement and i wanted to hear some opinions about it...will the fact it lacks a surface skimmer be an issues?? appreciate any input

I have heard mostly good things about them but have zero first hand experience. Check out the Deltec forum if you haven't already - lots of info and users in there.

I have the MCE 600 on my 50 gal., it is an awesome skimmer, my only issue at this point is that I have micro bubbles, but what I am being told, this is part of the break in period. But the skimmer pulls some nasty nog, and it runs very quite. It not having a surface skimmer is a drawback, but if you keep enough surface aggitation it's not an issue. The other plus is it has a compartment for carbon or other media if you need it. I would highly recommend this skimmer.

i have no surface skimmer its no problem i just have lots of surface agitation
i think surface agitation is an overlooked element of sumpless tanks its really important for them

If you couldn't live with the Tunze in your tank, I doubt you'd be ok with the large and unsightly mag/skimmer box.

I had a Ramora MJ1200/MAG3/quite one 1200 with skimmer box and now I have a MCE600. The MCE pulls out a lot more scum than my ramora ever did. I did end up making a 2"x4"x12" skimmer box for my MCE600 to help with the surface scum, and now it skims even better.
