Demos for August meeting

bring the light of course of course. (sorry thought I was Mr. Ed there for a minute.

No seriously it would be great to actually see the light, up close and personal. But if it were mine, I am not sure, I would be willing to transport it, unnecessarily. Just so a bunch of reef geeks could touch.

JMO Use your own judgement as to wheter or not you chance the transport to the meeting.

In that case. Maybe a storm could bring lots of cloud cover. I am sure it happens occassionally in the ocean.

A few hours without a light is not going to hurt your tank. Chuck if you could bring it that would be great.

Guys,
This really is on track. I hope this gives inspiration for how bad some of us could use some help.
I do this for fun and have at best, only minor knowledge about SW. I'm poor because of my tank just like 95% of other people. You all on the other hand are not part of that 95%. You, for the most part, actually make money at this. I do value all of your knowledge very much.
I did not imagine cold sand giving our tank ich. It was however the only thing we purchased. I also had never read or heard of this before. I said this as a fact, not an opinion. I would never, ever say what I did if I myself didn't see it first hand.
I just read that you all were talking about a sand swap. I was trying to help.
If you are going to talk about ich at the club meeting I thought it would be a good tip to pass along to us simpletons. Tips and tricks, auctions and demos, keep things fun. I would love to attend your meeting but I really dont want to promote a long talk about the entire life cycle of some bug. You cant possibly want to give it.

I'll give you an idea how simpletons think and maybe how bad I need some help.
I think that if any one of us got one pound of our own sand and bagged it up. Let the temp drop way down, maybe even 55 for several hours. Then added our own sand back to our own tank. This would cause a break out of ich. I thought this because I think those eggs/spores are always present.
I would think that this is not true out of a QT tank. I would hope the eggs are dead in there.
I realize I probably need a lesson. This would almost duplicate what happened to us though.
I actually paid alot of money for that sand and shipping and ended up loosing much more. These tips and tricks are what a SW club is about, isn't it.
If I'm correct, it would also promote the idea of buying some homemade grunge locally from a LFS or a fellow reefer. Maybe you all could make some money.

Another meeting question:
Is there still going to be frag sales even though your having the auction? Would this be considered stepping on the auctioneers toes. Lord knows I dont want to do that.

There will still be sales yes. Your post has inspired a much needed discussion and we will be using this as a topic  Also I may be up to performing your suggested test and will document the results.

Thanks for all the input we could not do it without individuals like you.

1. Test Kits/ Chemistry crap- Phil
2. Lighting discussion, need a couple different fixtures, I can bring a halide and NO fluorescent. I need someone to bring a PC, VHO, and T5 if available. Piper maybe you could show us your LEDS. I think this would be a great discussion and would show people how each light differs.
3. If someone wants to make grunge thats fine.
4. A discussion about QT tanks/ hospital tanks
5. A discussion about parasites and pests, maybe we can put 4 and 5 together.

I think we have #'s 1,4,5 covered. I would still like to do the differences between lighting discussion but I need some props. Still need someon to make grunge or have one more topic..

Thanks,

Phillip

How about how to do topic #4 on a budget?
Min. size, lighting, skimmerless?
Budget QT!

Is anyone reading the discussion boards or is everyone on vacation?
I've been reading just real bad about replying lately. Too much yard work and "Summer stuff".
I don't have any extra lighting setups and the ones in use are retrofits so I can't take them off the tanks easily. A few members have had pc units for sale lately maybe if they haven't sold yet somebody could bring one in.
I agree 4 & 5 go together. Together though they'll probably need more than the 15 minutes I think Ron was trying to allot for individual demos/talks.
I'm sure the hospital/QT talk will address min. size, flow etc. Most are by design budget setups.

I do have a 72" PC still in the box for sale. If I haven't sold it I suppose we could use it or use my other one if Phil gets it fixed.

As for the LED if I'm draggin that bad boy to the swap I wanna take over the demo for about 10-15 minutes so I can show all the neat functions of the light including replacing the LED's. I have a couple strips that need swapped out.

Lana and I can bring our PCs off of our 40 both are 48", 1 is set up with actinic and the other is daylight can't remember the spectrum for either at the moment.

Hey guys I put together a 48" over driven normal output light that I retrofitted into a standard 48" light strip if you guys are still wanting to see a 48" ODNO setup I can bring it to the swap and add it to the light demo.
