Derasa Missing part of the Mantle - is this PM disease?

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=8155450#post8155450 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by stevedola
so all you guys do is an RO dip with the same temp water for 30 minutes for PMD??
That is correct.

After i did 30 Minutes Fresh water dip i put all the clams in the reef tank in half hour they all had half the mantel extended after one hour thay all had a full mantel extension, i also put the small Derasa in the reef tank i have now dip all the clams in FW so it will be just better to have all the clam in the same tank it is much better water quality in the reef tank than the FOWLR tank any way.
I hope I'm finish with the FW dipping the clams.:D

Update

Update

Is he a little better? Tear in the mantel will heal without problem if he recover.
Well yes and no
It open up some today and still reacting to the over pass of fish, but i tell you that is a tough little Ora Derasa clam, it has a 1/4" hole on the mantel i think it happen to the baby clam from him been gaping so much.
The other clams doing good i had to dip them with the pigback rocks when i dip them they are still hanging on to them. and still have them when i put them back to the reef .
I will post the outcome of it .
How long you need to have no clams in the reef tank so it will be safe for more clams .
I'm going to use my Refuge from the other tank for clam quarantine but i had the Derasa in there so i need to know the time frame that it take for the PM disease to die so i can put new clams in that tank.

Sorry Steve, I don't have this answer for you. I have two tanks going right now also so that I can use one as quarantine for any new clams. It is an Aquapod with 150 W Mh on it.

Zoom,
Do you by any chance know why or how the another holes in the mantle form? I have one additional opeing in the top of my tear drop maxima...my clam looks to be okay, it's just that hole and a piece of the mantle hasn't fully cleared the shell in about a month. I'm sorry but I don't have any photos to share. I just wanted to know if I should perform a fresh water dip for my clam... Are they beneficial to any type of clam?

I can not tell you to do a FWD on your clam it is very stressful and with no picture no one can said what is the problem.

How is your calm do today Steve? How about PMD, is it all gone from your tank as far as you can see?
Good luck.

Yes please keep us posted.

I am having similar concerns. After dosing some iron to help out my cheato for a few days, I noticed what looked like some PM areas on my clams. I've stopped the dosing now and am about to run a canister filter full of carbon. I haven't done a FWD yet but we'll see how the clams do. I have a small derasa and a small crocea.
