Deresa clam question

Ok so I have had my far share of croceas and maximas but now I have a large deresa clam in my tank on the bottom in the sand. The darn thing will not attach to the glass. Is this something I need to worry about. It doesn't move besides face one way or the other. Its got plenty of growth on it shell. I think its fine I just want to be sure.
Thanks Gina

How big is it? Ive read that when a clam gets to be big enough they will quit putting out the byssal threads.

he's big enough to rely on his own weight to stay put, his byssal hole will likely grow closed now, this is perfectly normal :)

My 7" Deresa refuses to do well on the sand bed despite 500W of MH lighting. Put him up on the rocks and he "blooms" like a rose. So there he stays, unattached, just sitting in a shallow crevice!

Nope, agree with A4twenty comment.

Strong growth = healthy. A sick or ailing organism has little energy available for growth. Can we see a picture of it? Thanks!

I am new to derasa clams and I just got one the other day. What do you guys feed them? Should I try to drop a few pellets in his mouth or just rely on the marine snow?

Thanks.

Its just like a4twenty said they will not attach when they get about that big. Mine were bought when tiny at about 2" and I got a great deal on them. I set them on separate small rocks in the sand and they attached to them immediately. About the time they hit 6" and got pretty heavy they both detached from the rocks and never attached to anything again.

No worries as rely on their weight to hold them in place when they get that big :)

Glad to hear it. I took this with my iPhone so the quality isn't like my actual camera
