Deresa Clam

My LFS has a deresa clam that is awesome. I was looking at it and it was labeled "DAROSA CLAM". I assume they meant deresa? Anyways, I have T-5 nova extreme 216 watt lighting. The guy at the store saw me looking at it he said, with my amount lighting if I put it higher in the rocks somewhere, it could be possible. He said most people put clams in the sand, but my lighting isn't strong enough so to put it in the rocks. Can I get it, or is this guy totally wrong?

They perfer the bottom SB and an established tank (year or more) and good lighting. I have a 75 gallon with nova extreme 8 x 54 T-5 light and waited over a yr to add my clam.

Yeah, your probably right. My tanks been running for a year and I re-did it 5 months ago. I still have a little left over algae that needs to be eliminated though. Waiting is probably the smarter thing to do. That'll probably be my last addition as of corals to the tank if I do get it. But is 216 watts good enough?

Thanks

I think your lacking light for many coral. Capn's idea of moving it up closer to the light would be best in your situation. They perfer a SB placement but can do fine on the rockwork.

I disagree about "lacking light for many coral." Yeah, sps and harder corals like that need perfect water and a ton of light but corals like I have like my frogspawn, torch coral, green star polyps, variety of mushrooms, yellow leather, rafta leather and clove polyps are all thriving right now. With the right placement, and the right water movement they are always open.
