Thanks 4pts....

That's a Derasa Clam, although the mantle looks like a Squamosa. Derasa's have a smooth shell and Squamosa's have a tiered shell.

Rock Anemone:D

Well, the gaping looks like a Dersa. However... the color and shell looks like a squamosa to me.

I say toss a coin.

I third a Deresa / Squam hybrid . Also check out the second picture closeley it looks like some kind of snail up under the mantle which probably isnt friendly . "Scrape 'em off Jim".

Actually the snail like things, in the second pic were clams. A half dollar size clam on the left and a small one to the right.

No consenus as to Squammy or Deresa? Hmm I don't feel so bad for asking.

Is there any other distiguishers or pics I could provide to help?

can u turn the clam so u can get a pic of the side of the shell dead on,out of the sand, and then get a pic of the byssal opening then ill tell u for sure

mbbuna, do you mean 1 from each end?
One looking at the byssal, and the other at the hinge?

I'll get these next time I am there.

one of the byssal and one of the side, almost like the one above but turn the clam a little more and if it can be up out of the sand so we can see the full side and shape of the shell
