Deresa or Squamosa Clam?

Hi,

My wife and I stopped by a local fish store last Sunday, she saw a beautiful clam and wanted it bad. Well, the owner told us it is a Squamosa clam and our 100 gallons tank with TEK-2 T5 perfect for it. He gave my wife 15% off and cost us 85 dollars to take him home. After reading this forum today, I think it is a Deresa. It has a white color with brown and green color mix in, purple/blue rim.
Is it a Deresa or Squamosa?
Is 85 dollars is a good price for him?
Just want to know as it is really not matter much about cost since my wife really like him.
I just want to know so we can shop for our next clam wisely.
These are 2 pictures of him and I can not seems to take and capture it true color in real life with my wife 6 MP digital camera.

u know Chris it could also be a Deresa Squamosa Hybrid from ORA, i think they look like that, but the pattern is more squamosa like.

has a recent thread warped you brain:D

100% derasa

hybridization has never been proven.

Thank you for your confirmation and that link.
Can you also help me with its price?
Did we pay too much for a Deresa clam or that is a nice rare color hence its high price tag?
My wife wants a nice deep blue color clam next, what would you suggest, Maxima?

I have that same clam in my tank right now.... i paid 50 for it though (4.5') . and i paid 80 for my large squamosa (6') also have a Crocea (2.5-3) that i paid 60 for.

Absolutely. Well said.

lol
nono, i'm just going by what ORA has said. they have been trying for a long time to breed deresas and squamosas together and the outcome does look like a hybrid. its not on paper i know but they are distributing them to retail stores as hybrid squamosas/deresas

uh, 4.5 FEET!! & 6 FEET!!! holy cow. I think you might mean inches (")

I just bought one, looks exactly the same. About 4"-5", cost $54 and I thought that was a tad high. Beautiful clams, definitely deresa.

I have a couple clams like that one too, it was marketed as a "tongan aquacultured derasa". They do have some neat mantle coloration. Here is a pic for comparion:
