Desjardini and Whitecheek?

I have a 150H (48"x24"x31") with a Clarki Clown (5yo), Goldhead Gobie, 3 blue chromises, red scooter blenny, and a flame hawkfish. I just put them in the DT from QT and my QT is now clear for new additions.

I'm thinking of adding a Desjardini and Whitecheek Tang (along with 3 Bartlett's Anthias', 2 firefish, and a purple dottyback).

Will these tangs do OK together? Should they do OK with the Clarki? And would it be irresponsible to put those 8 fish in a 40B QT for 6 weeks? If so what order should I go?

honestly i wouldnt do either of those tangs in there. both get pretty big and would need a 6' tank minimum. the length is more important than the actual gallons in the tank. I have the same problem because i bought a 110 which is also a tall tank and even though it's larger than say a 90 it doesnt really expand your fish selection because it truly doesnt provide the needed length than larger and more active fish like those 2 tangs would require. The other fish would be fine but i would watch out for the dotty back, i ve never kep one but hear they can get quite aggressive.

both the desjardini and white cheek tangs get too big for your 4-foot tank. desjardini gets to 15" and requires an 8-foot tank (basically twice the size of yours). white cheek gets to about 8" and needs a 6-foot tank.

In terms of compatibility though, they should be ok together.

live aquaria said the whitecheek needed a 125g and at only 8" i figured that would be OK. I also read that the desjardini's can be OK in 4' tanks, but it probably is better to be safe than sorry. So from a tang perspective I can really only go with yellow's or kole's or something I guess?

Livequaria typically gives suggestions based on standard size tanks. A standard 125g is 72" x 18" x 22", so that is ok for a white-cheek tang. Desjardini is definitely not ok in a 4-foot tank. it's one of the biggest tangs! Liveaquaria suggests 180g for a desjardini but I wouldn't put him in a 6-foot tank. its body size really requires an 8-foot one.

3 yellows should be ok in a 150g. just make sure you get them juvenile and similar body sized.

There are plenty of nice tangs that can fit in a 4" tank. You may want to look at these selections from Live Aquaria.

P.S. - I used 90g as the selection even though you have a 150g tank because that would be more appropriate given that you only have a 4" tank.

i have two yellow in one of my reef tanks. as long as u add them at the same time, they wont fight. the sailfin and the whitecheek will do fine since they r different shape.

Thanks guys...this is all very helpful. I think I'm going to try the 3 yellows. I like the way they look in a small group like that and I should be able to buy 3 smallish ones of equal size from LiveAquaria. I certainly don't want to get any fish that will grow out of my tank or be unhappy in a couple years.
