Desperately need help with Trigger Sump

Hi Marine Depot,

I recently purchased a Trigger Emerald 26 sump and a Reef Octopus 150 INT. Unfortunately, I forgot to measure the size of the skimmer section and realized that the skimmer would not fit in the skimmer section.

So I need to replace the RO 150. The two skimmers that I'm choosing between are the

Reef Octopus Regal 150SSS Protein Skimmer
NYOS QUANTUM 160 Protein Skimmer

Both are should fit in the Emerald skimmer section according to the stated manufacturer's size of the sump. The issue is this. With the eurobracing, the entry to the skimmer is actually smaller. I measure it at about 7 1/4" by about 9 7/8". So I'm now not sure either skimmer would fit. Would it be possible for you guys to actually check that either skimmer would actually fit in there for me. Returning the RO 150 INT all the way from Maryland cost me a mint. I'm happy to buy a new skimmer, but I absolutely don't want to pay to return yet another skimmer because it won't fit in the sump's TINY skimmer section.

Thanks a million guys,

Hi FB,

Both the Nyos 160 and Regal 150SSS have footprints larger than 7 1/4", so neither will fit.

How large is your aquarium? Perhaps, we can help pick out an alternative option for you.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the reply. Bummer on the dimensions. This is for a 75 gallon tank. In the past I used a Euroreef RS80 on a 38g reef and that worked out very well. So I was hoping to get something a bit bigger for this tank. I still have the RS80, but unfortunately it won't fit in the sump either. I'm looking for something that gets close to 10 rpm of air or so.

Cheers,

We'd recommend taking a look at the AquaMaxx Q-2. It has a very compact footprint of 6.3" x 8.7", so may be a great option for you.

I have the same sump and the same issue. I was considering the Aquamaxx Q-2 or Waveline RLSS R6-I. Either should fit. I currently have a Bubble Magus Curve 5 and it fits with no issue.

Thank you for chiming in and sharing your experience! Love the RC community. It is always helpful to hear from hobbyists using the same equipment and encountering similar challenges.

Yes, thanks a lot jj5! I also appreciate the input.

The link above for the Aquamaxx Q-2 actually sent me to the page for the CO-2, which would not fit. So I'll check out the Q-2. It seems like a larger skimmer and an ideal fit.
