I picked up a small frag of devil's hand leather 2 weeks ago. Took a long time to acclimate. In fact I still do not think it is fully acclimated yet.It is about an 1.5 inch frag when fully extended. It has been closed most of the time I have had it and have seen the polyps out alot more the last couple of days.

I would love to see some pics of your healthy Devil's hands and would appreciate any advice given for care of them!

Here is mine. Should the polyps be open more or is this what I should expect?

mine loved my old tank, I've never found a spot in the new tank that it liked and finally gave up

Good luck finding qa spot he likes.

Thats about how they look, They like high light and good flow. Mine is about 6 inches away from a 250 watt halide. Lots of open white polyps and its about 11 inches across. Just put it in the top half of your tank where there is moderate flow and it should be fine, I have noticed it is very susceptible to changes in Alkalinity. Too high or too low and it will tend to stay closed up and go necrotic on the tips. Good luck with yours.

The easiest way is to click the "post reply" button and not the "quick reply" button.
This will give you the option of attaching a photo.

what you got is a devils finger..this is a devils hand...lo P4180362.jpgl......if this doesnt work ill try photo bucket

Wouldn't be the first time I got the finger, probably wont be the last!

Your hand looks great . I am sure it will be a long time before mine gets that big. What sort of growth rate can I expect with these?

I traveled 50 miles to a new "LFS"... lol , and did not want to come home empty handed so I picked up this small frag for 14 bucks.

ive had my devils hand since feb. and i love it i havent seen much growth and its about half the size of the one pictured above but it has dropped 7-9 babies which have grown really well for other reefers ive traded with. your "finger" looks good my hand sits in the sand bed against a rock. dont get discouraged if it looks unhappy sometimes after mine drops babies it curls up no extension at all and then sheds after a day its all happy again

Just an update! The "Finger" is doing great and is getting huge( compared to what it was when I first got it). It has doubled in size and the polyps are almost always extended. Looks promising . I will try to post some new pics later.

Just an update on growth. It has been almost one year and it it has grown a little .The base has started to spread out and started to form more fingers. Finally it is starting to look like a hand. Now that the new lobes have formed I am expecting some faster growth, I hope !
